The Myth of The Neapolitan Riviera

Cuma is believed to have been founded in the 8th Century B.C.
The remains here are unbelievable, you can see the road 'Via Sacra' still intact, leading up to the Acropolis and Temples.
The views looking out over the pinewoods and onto the sea are magnificent.

On the eastern shore is the thermal hall know as "Temple of Apollo and dates back to 2nd Century A.D.
It is lovely to take a stroll around the lake and see the natural wildlife.

On the 19th September 305 A.D., Father Gennaro was beheaded in the Amphitheatre - Flavio, because of his Christian beliefs. The blood of St. Gennaro was collected and placed in a glass casket.
On the 19th September, a religious festival takes place every year and the blood of St. Gennaro is displayed. It is expected to be liquefied and if so, general health and prosperity is forecast for the coming year. If the blood has remained dried, it is said to be a bad omen!

There is a large building (hospitalia - hotel) with various floors and we can also see the remains of the villas of the nobles who came here to take advantage of the spring baths.
In fact, Nero's Mother, Agrippina and Emporor Hadrian died here!

This is the Royal Hunting Lodge of the previous Kings of Naples and was built in A.D. 1782. To enter, you walk through the picturesque Villa Comunale to get to the Casina, which is on the lagoon formation of Lake Fusaro.

Other adjoining towns are Arco Felice, Lucrino, Baia, Bacoli, Miseno, and the famous baths of Cuma, all of which are close and easily reached by the Cumana Railway. You can even take the train to Torregaveta and from here starts the stretch of beautiful white sandy beaches, with shallow, warm waters.
Apart from the above sites, not forgetting easy access to Naples (The Reale Palace and The Underground City of Naples, the Galleria Umberto, Castel del'Ovo, Castel Maschio Angioino, Capodimonte Museum-China), Pompeii, Herculanium, Sorrento, Amalfi and Positano, not to mention less than 2 hrs from central Rome and 3 hours from Florence via Italian Eurostar!
